Those Were The Days

Remember when we were light as a feather
We'd be running home up the road from school
And we'd race for the door of the old corner store
Fishing for quarters in our pockets at noon

We'd make it home just in time for dinner
With sunburned shoulders and mosquito bites
We'd read books to the cats with the dog in the bed
And we'd sing ourselves to sleep at night

CH:
Those were the days
( we were sun burnt and laughing )

Remember when you sang songs in the bath tub
And I sang the chorus from the room below
Then you'd play with your hair and your make-up
while I'd lie on your bed and try on all of your clothes

There were days where we'd stay up late at night
Writing letters and talking on the phone
We'd play that record over and over
And smoke cigarettes until your Daddy came home
then we'd shut all the lights and hide in our beds
And whisper stories to each other again
Of dirty rascals and queens of the castles
And of summers… that would never end.

CH:
Those were the days
We did all we could and we thought that they'd never end
Those were the days
Ya, I'd do it again and I'm glad that you're still my friend

Remember when you snuck out the house at night
That boy was waiting in the yard for you
He held your hand while you danced to the band
Then one day he went and broke your heart in two
You cried for days but we found all the ways
to make you forget your sorrows and
look to tomorrow where you'd always find us
sitting there, sun burnt and laughing.

CH:
Those were the days
We did all we could and we thought that they'd never end
Those were the days
Ya, I'd do it again and I'm glad that you're still my friend

Ya, I'd do it again and I'm glad that you're still my friend

Ya, I'd do it again and I'm glad that you're still my friend
